China and Canterbury to work together on renewables projects

The University of Canterbury in New Zealand has signed a deal with one of China’s leading research institutes to collaborate on renewable energy engineering systems.

The university will work with the Weihai branch of the Harbin Institute of Technology on projects involving solar, wind and tidal engineering technologies, marine science and international finance and trade.

The Harbin institute was established in 1920 and has campuses in Harbin, Shenzhen and Weihai, a commercial port in eastern Shandong province. The institute has its own space programme and an international reputation for astronautical research.
