NZ backs regional climate research as part of ‘Pacific reset’

New Zealand’s government is to increase funding for education and climate change research across the Pacific region as part of a $714-million aid programme to be delivered over four years.

Deputy prime minister Winston Peters announced the initiative in a speech to parliament on 8 May in which he outlined details of the government’s policy to create closer ties with neighbouring countries.

Full details of the programme will be announced in the Ardern government’s first national budget on 17 May.
