Universities take the lead in numbers of overseas students

Publicly funded institutions overtake private training establishments for first time in six years

New Zealand’s universities are attracting more international students, with enrolments rising by 7 per cent in 2018 despite a downturn in other higher education areas, education minister Chris Hipkins has announced.

“This is the first time in the last six years that the university sector has become the largest sector for international students, overtaking private training establishments,” he said in a government statement.
