Farm research grant to support sustainable land use

Massey University has received a $400,000 grant from the New Zealand government to set up a rural research facility that will focus on digital farming technologies.

The Rural Innovation Lab will be based at the university’s Palmerston North campus, about 140 kilometres north of Wellington in the Manawatū-Whanganui farming region.

Agriculture minister Damien O’Connor and Fletcher Tabuteau, NZ’s undersecretary for regional economic development, announced the funding on 26 February. The grant is part of the government’s $3-billion Provincial Growth Fund to support regional economies.
