More mental health services for Victoria University students

Victoria University of Wellington will expand its counselling services to provide increased access to professional mental health specialists for students affected by depression, anxiety and addiction problems.

Mauri Ora, the university’s student health and counselling service, will provide four additional full-time psychologists who will support existing mental health and wellbeing services.

The initiative follows a national mental health report in December 2018 that called for better access to counselling services and “a transformation of the mental health system in New Zealand”. It also called for policies to address youth suicide and alcohol abuse.
