High legal costs ‘form barrier to enforcing NZ copyright’

Government review should consider difficulties involved in enforcing legal rights, says academic

Changes to New Zealand’s copyright laws must provide alternatives to costly legal action to enforce licence rights for artists, a leading law academic has said.

Graeme Austin, chair in private law at Victoria University of Wellington, says a government review of the Copyright Act should look at the difficulties involved in licence owners taking action against infringements.
