Otago professor assesses New Zealand’s progress on gender equality for International Women’s Day

Tertiary students in New Zealand are increasingly rejecting binary gender classification, with equality debates expanding to include transgender rights, a University of Otago academic has said.

Annabel Cooper, an associate professor with the university’s gender studies programme, suggests that changes around gender classification will be a “big shake-up” for prejudices that reinforce discrimination against women.
