Māori research to inform natural disaster response and policies

Earthquake Commission provides grant to set up Mātauranga Māori Disaster Risk Reduction Research Centre

Massey University has received a New Zealand government grant to set up a research centre for natural disaster resilience that will use traditional Māori knowledge and science to inform national policies.

The $375,000 grant was awarded by the Earthquake Commission, a government agency that provides around $17 million annually for research and data to reduce the impacts of natural hazards. The grant is part of its annual allocation for university-based research.
