Public consultation begins on assessment of research quality through New Zealand’s Performance-Based Research Fund

New Zealand’s government is changing the way its Performance-Based Research Fund assesses research quality.

The next round of PBRF quality evaluations are not due until 2025, but a national review of how it will be carried out is already underway. The PBRF, the main system of government funding for higher education research, has NZ$315 million a year to distribute to universities and some smaller institutions for research work.
