Geoscience agency says charges over volcanic eruption have had a major impact on its resources

Charges against New Zealand’s national geoscience agency over a 2019 volcanic eruption have been aired in the Auckland District Court, with the agency saying in its 2020 report that it has been deeply affected by the allegations.

GNS Science and the National Emergency Management Agency are among 13 parties charged by safety regulator WorkSafe New Zealand in relation to the explosion of the Whakaari White Island volcano in December 2019.
