Higher education needs “a fit-for-purpose funding model” and less reliance on international students, conference hears

New Zealand’s Tertiary Education Union has called for funding reforms at its annual conference.

Education minister Chris Hipkins used his appearance at the conference, held from 2 to 4 May, to warn that international student numbers would not recover for some time. No new cohorts of students have been announced since border exceptions were granted to about a thousand students in January.
