NZ institutions welcome move to open access

   

But some demand immediate free publication without current 12-month embargo

New Zealand’s revised open-access rule has been deemed “an exciting development” for researchers lobbying for this cause, while others have urged caution.

New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) announced on 23 November that all future public research funding rounds after 1 January would carry an open-access mandate. The mandate covers all research projects that result in peer-reviewed publications.
