Labour out, but votes still being counted ahead of coalition decision

New Zealand’s Labour government has lost the national election, but the exact shape of the new government remains unclear.

The National opposition won the most votes of any party in the 14 October poll, but not enough to govern in its own right. It may form a coalition with the right-leaning Act party, but may also need a third partner to gain sufficient seats in parliament to govern.
