Horizon association ‘will integrate NZ into global science system’

Parliamentary report emphasises benefits of association to EU research and innovation programme

New Zealand’s association to the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme will help “integrate” the country into the global science system, a parliamentary report has said.

The ‘national interest’ analysis by parliament’s Economic Development, Science and Innovation Committee examined the treaty that established the association. It found no “specific disadvantages” of association, whereas the benefits will be “realised in the medium to long term” in the form of “new policy, innovations and technology”, with climate change a key challenge to be addressed.
