New Zealand’s research priorities to be finalised by early 2024

Panel will be created soon to make recommendations, but concerns are raised about consultation process

New Zealand’s new national research priorities are to be “mission-based” and treated as government investment portfolios.

A panel to draft the priorities is expected to be announced within weeks. It will “consider analysis and advice from a cross-agency working group with input from various stakeholders, including government agencies, sector experts, international and futures experts, industry and Māori representatives,” the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment said on 7 July.
