Graham Malaghan steps back from New Zealand medical research institute his family helped establish
For one of New Zealand’s leading medical research institutes, 2024 marks the start of a new era as the man whose family founded it has stepped down as chair after more than three decades in the role.
The Malaghan Institute of Medical Research traces its roots back to Len and Ann Malaghan, who were involved in setting up the Wellington Cancer and Medical Research Institute in the 1960s and 1970s. Graham Malaghan later became chair, shortly after the institute’s name was changed in honour of his parents in 1986.
