Agricultural scientists welcome clarification around ‘null segregants’ but say more reforms are needed

Researchers in New Zealand have welcomed an Environmental Protection Authority ruling that some descendants of genetically modified organisms will not be classified as genetically modified, saying this will make their work easier.

In a “clarification” on 22 February, the EPA said that organisms known as “null segregants…do not contain genetic modifications themselves”.
