Defra: an investigation into the effect of historic noise policy interventions

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs invites applications for an investigation into the effect of historic noise policy interventions.

The aim of this call is to assess the effectiveness of various historic policy measures that were designed to manage noise since the introduction of the noise abatement act in 1960 in order to inform the delivery of the noise policy statement for England. The objectives are to conduct: an examination of the effectiveness of at least six policy measures that have been introduced since 1960 and that were designed to manage noise since that time; an assessment of how noise impacts and effects have changed in response to the selected policy measures, the effects being quantified where possible; consideration of what lessons might be learned; if gaps in evidence are found, which restrict the assessment of the effectiveness of a measure, the contractor should suggest how to minimise the risk of such gaps appearing in the future. The project team should include staff with acoustics expertise and experience of making assessments of the type required in this project, evaluating outputs, drawing out lessons learnt and delivering good quality, clear reports, to time.
