Education cuts protests pass peacefully

Fears of a repeat of the violence that accompanied previous demonstrations against budget cuts in higher education proved unfounded as a march through central London on 9 November passed off uneventfully, The Guardian reports.

The march attracted an estimated 2,500 protestors, many fewer than the 10,000 predicted, and they were outnumbered by 4,000 police. About 20 arrests were made as marchers tried to pitch tents in Trafalgar Square.
