Welsh universities considering student number controls

The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales is considering introducing the core-and-margin model already planned for England in which student numbers are redistributed to universities charging lower fees. Although universities in Wales are set to increase their fees to up £9,000 per year from 2012-13, the Welsh Assembly Government plans to award grants to cover the cost of higher fees for Welsh-domiciled students.
