Doctors have voiced concern over the possible implications of plans to open up NHS patient data to private and public researchers.
The plans were announced in the government’s Strategy for UK Life Sciences on 5 December, which was developed by the Office for Life Sciences but coordinated by the Prime Minister’s office. The document says that the government will consult on changing the NHS constitution to allow patients who do not opt out to be approached about taking part in research studies for which they are eligible.
