Two universities ‘considering privatisation’

Two unnamed universities are considering becoming private, according to a survey of 65 vice-chancellors reported in The Guardian on 30 June.

According to the newspaper, the universities are specialist institutions outside the Russell Group of research-intensive universities. The move would leave the universities without government-funded student loans, but without any need to adhere to rules on widening access.
