Councils scrap ‘low-cost but effective’ stem-cell network

A group of research councils has rejected a proposal to pay the £130,000-a-year needed to continue running the UK National Stem Cell Network.

The network, which closed down on 31 December, had around 2,500 members in academia, industry, regulatory bodies, charities and government. Its annual meeting attracted 450 delegates in 2011, 30 per cent from industry.
