Library bodies produce open access briefing

Research Libraries UK and the Society of College, National and University Libraries have produced a briefing on the impact of open access publishing on academic institutions, researchers, and the wider society.

The document, compiled by scholarly-communications consultant Alma Swan, argues that open access gives researchers more visibility and impact. In addition, it says, it speeds up the research process by reducing duplication of work.
