Shell to close its main UK research centre

Oil company Shell is to close its main UK R&D centre—the Shell Technology Centre in Thornton, Cheshire—as part of plans to move its research capacity abroad. The decision to close the site in 2014 follows an earlier announcement that the site’s laboratory activities will move to Hamburg and elsewhere. Employees at the centre working in areas such as product development will be relocated to positions across the UK.
