Mike Russell, Scotland’s education secretary, has said his government has been “vindicated” after figures showed a 0.2 per cent overall rise in the number of people applying to study in Scotland, reported the Scotsman on 31 January.
However, the figures, published by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, show that the rise is due to a 6 per cent boost in the number of applicants from the EU and a 25 per cent rise in foreign students from outside the EU.
