Britain’s future is in open innovation, says Will Hutton

Universities need to be freed from the “suffocating inhibition” of creating patents and copyrights through go-it-alone research and instead become “transformative, open, innovation hubs”, Will Hutton, chairman of the Big Innovation Centre, has written in a comment on The Guardian website.

The ambition of the government’s Technology Strategy Board and Catapult centres is “too limited and the pace of roll-out is painfully slow”, he wrote on 14 October.
