When Frank Sinatra sang Love and Marriage we wager he wasn’t thinking about maths and biology. But, in a stroke of PR abandon, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council has managed to shoehorn the famous line “You can’t have one without the other” into a press release. Despite its desperation to make the new project eye-catching, BBSRC does admit that maths and science is a “less romantic union”.
