IPO proposes changes to patent act to boost drug R&D
The Intellectual Property Office has proposed amending a section of the 1977 Patents Act to provide an exception to patent infringement when using non-generic drugs in clinical or field trials. A consultation on the proposal was launched on 24 October and closes on 19 December. According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills this would make the UK a “more favourable place” for companies to carry out drug-related R&D.
