Unions keep close eye on BAS as redundancy talks begin

The British Antarctic Survey and the Natural Environment Research Council have begun talks with union representatives over plans to make redundancies at the survey.

BAS will cut 18 of its 440 posts as part of cuts across the institutes run by NERC. However, it will not follow the same processes used by the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton and Liverpool when it made redundancies this summer.
