BBSRC leads crops investment
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council has coordinated a £16 million international investment in research on the sustainability of food crops in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. The funding has been awarded to 11 food security projects, including historical DNA sequencing as part of the fight against threats to wheat. The BBSRC has invested £3m in the projects while £5m will come from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and £7m from the Department for International Development. India’s science ministry will contribute £1m for projects involving India.
