The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has pledged to commission independent reviews into its peer-review processes and the ways in which it obtains strategic advice. It is also to make changes to a policy that required grant applicants to explain the national importance of research proposals over 10 to 50 years. Though the requirement itself will remain, the time frame will be removed.
