Turing pardon off the agenda

The government has dismissed a motion calling for computer pioneer Alan Turing to be officially pardoned for his conviction for homosexuality in the 1950s. The online petition, which has more than 23,000 signatures, was dismissed by justice minister Tom McNally in the House of Lords on 2 February. He said Turing was “properly convicted of what at the time was a criminal offence”.
