Plymouth University vice-chancellor Wendy Purcell has written to MPs in south-west England saying the institution stands to lose 10 per cent of student places under the government’s “core margin” system—despite an increase in applications, reported the BBC on 10 March.
“For Plymouth this means that we shall lose 500 student places. In addition to this reduction in places, we also lose further places as a result of various [HEFCE] adjustments and pro-rata reductions,” says the letter, according to the BBC.
