NERC plans ‘cost saving’ polar and marine merger

Management of the Natural Environment Research Council’s work in polar and marine science is to be brought under the same roof. NERC’s governing council wants to create a single headquarters for the National Oceanographic Centre and the British Antarctic Survey. In a statement published on 7 June, the research council did not name the site and said that all BAS and NOC sites at Cambridge, Southampton and Liverpool would continue, without significant staff relocation.
