Ethics council backs ‘three-person IVF’ technology

IVF technology that uses biological material from three parents to combat mitochondrial disease would be an ethical treatment option when ready for clinical use, the Nuffield Council on Bioethics has said. Its report Mitochondrial DNA Disorders follows a six-month inquiry into the ethical issues raised by the new techniques.
