MPs’ wish for engineering adviser fails again

The government has spurned calls from the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee to appoint a chief engineer to advise the government and its chief scientific adviser on engineering policy issues.

The government’s response to the committee’s recent inquiry into engineering, published on 17 July, states that the quality of advice it receives is adequate with just an overall chief scientific adviser.
