The world reference laboratory for foot and mouth disease at Pirbright, part of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s Animal Health Institute, has been awarded $3 million by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The award puts Pirbright at the centre of the FAO and OIE global control strategy for the disease, an Animal Health Institute announcement said.
