Cuts threaten the Big Society, claims British Academy

Funding cuts threaten the ability of charities and community organisations to implement the government’s Big Society agenda in the poorest areas, according to a report published by the British Academy.

Authored by Anne Power, the report traces the roots of the Big Society back to mutual aid and co-operation models born during the Industrial Revolution. Power finds that communities need supportive public frameworks and the unifying role of central government in order to achieve Big Society goals.
