The UK government plans to spend £189 million on projects such as bioinformatics and environmental monitoring over the next two years, science minister David Willetts confirmed when he revealed last week how the £600m for science announced in the Autumn Statement will be allocated. Willetts also earmarked £45m for advanced materials, £35m for robotics and autonomous systems, £30m for grid-scale energy storage, and £25m for the National Space Technology Programme.
