Life sciences spend hits £1.6bn

The life sciences received a total of £1.6 billion from the government in 2011-12, science and universities minister David Willetts has said. In a written answer in the House of Commons, Willetts said the Technology Strategy Board had spent £16.1 million of this total and the Medical Research Council £759.4m. Other big spenders included the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, which invested £542.5m.
