Securing adequate funding for research and removing the barriers to mobility for scientists will be among Mark Walport’s priorities as he takes office as the UK government’s chief scientific adviser in April.
Walport outlined what he headlined “glimpses of my strategic priorities” on 6 February at a farewell event for his predecessor John Beddington, organised by the Foundation for Science and Technology in London. In a much-anticipated speech he added that he would also maintain the current focus on priority areas including “resilience, security and wellbeing”.
