No need for time limit on jobs shortage list, government advised

The Migration Advisory Committee has recommended that the government drops its plans to introduce a “sunset clause” that would automatically remove all jobs from the UK Border Agency’s shortage occupation list after two years. The list includes skilled jobs for which an employer needs to recruit staff from outside Europe because of a shortage of UK candidates. The committee added that if the government were to introduce the clause anyway, it should kick in after four years instead of two.
