Research funding stable in HEFCE settlement

The Higher Education Funding Council for England has announced that it will distribute £4.47 billion in the 2013-14 academic year, 16 per cent less than the previous year. Research has survived without a cut: universities will receive £1.6bn from HEFCE this year, the same as last year. The amount going to each university will be announced on 21 March. Teaching is down 28 per cent to £2.3bn, while the Higher Education Innovation Fund is up to £160 million.
