Global action needed to tackle antibiotic resistance

Increasing resistance to antimicrobial medicines, including antibiotics, is a “catastrophic threat” and should be put on the UK’s national risk register, the UK’s Chief Medical Officer Sally Davies has recommended in her annual report, published on 11 March. Davies says more needs to be done to encourage the development of antibiotics to fill a discovery void in the area over the last two decades, and calls for closer monitoring of relevant data across the NHS.
