In October 1994, a yellow newsletter began appearing in the in-trays of scientists, chief executives and vice-chancellors across the UK. The first Research Fortnight.

The magazine debuted with a cover story about Ministry of Defence research spending and an analysis of the then-in-its-infancy Technology Foresight Programme.
