Response to engineering shortfall exceeds expectations

The author of a 2013 review into the UK’s engineering skills has said that, a year on from his review, the response to his recommendations has exceeded his expectations.

The 2013 Review of Engineering Skills was written by John Perkins, chief scientific adviser at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. He found that joint action on the part of British government, industry and education institutions would be needed to meet the increased demand for engineers that would accompany a recovery in the economy.

A follow-up report by Perkins published on 3 November praises the partnerships that have been established between government and industry to tackle the challenges he highlighted.
