The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced the names of the six academics who have won year-long placements with companies through its industrial secondments scheme.

The winners are Rafic Ajaj and Andrea Da Ronch at the University of Southampton, Tao Chen from the University of Surrey, Gillian Ragsdell at Loughborough University, Siraj Ahmed Shaikh from Coventry University, and Rafael Mauricio Viviescas of the University of Leicester. The industrial organisations at which the winners have been placed include Airbus Operations and Unilever UK Central Resources.

A press release announcing the winners, issued on 15 May, said that the scheme facilitated knowledge transfer and the establishment of long-term partnerships between researchers in industry and academia.
