Funders set out changes to concordat on research careers

The UK’s major research funders have agreed to tackle problems arising from the use of time-limited contracts for researchers, in response to an independent review of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.

The concordat is an agreement signed in 2008 between funders and employers to improve the employment and working conditions of researchers. Its implementation is overseen by the Concordat Strategy Group, members of which represent major research funders including UK Research and Innovation, the Wellcome Trust, the Royal Society and universities.

On 17 September, the CSG published its initial response to the recommendations—released on the same day—of an independent review panel tasked with updating the concordat.
