Government’s scientist reports lower costs and access for technicians desired in improved visa system
The government’s visa system for researchers should allow in entire teams and be cheaper than the deeply problematic current system, the UK’s chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance has said.
In an unpublished letter marked “official-sensitive” Vallance highlights several major shortcomings of both the current visa system and government plans for a salary threshold for Tier 2 visas (see: Chief scientist’s analysis reveals impacts of £30k salary cap).
